Formula 1 – The King Of All Motorsports

Among all the racing events in the world, Formula 1 is in a class of its own. Why is Formula 1, commonly known as F1, so popular? One reason could be the highly priced, custom built cars with powerful engines used in the races. Another reason could be the really strict rules that all cars and drivers have to comply with so as to participate in the championships there ensuring a fair winner.  Maybe it is the flair associated with the drivers and principals of each racing team. In any case, what started as a small racing event has now morphed into one of the most sought after sporting events in the entire world. Perhaps the biggest tribute to the F1 is that when a race is going on it attracts attention of viewers from world over sometimes even reducing their interest in other sports news.
F1 is organized by the international level racing body Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, or FIA, that is headquartered in France. It consists of several races each of which is known as a Grand Prix that is run on strategically designed roads. F1 races held in various circuits around the world consisting of numerous deep right and left turns. Some of these circuits are specially designed race-tracks while others are carved out of the streets of various big cities around the world. There are usually many different prestigious cars and engines competing in these races such as Mercedes-Benz, McLaren, Ferrari, BMW, Renault, Lotus and many more.
Formula 1 racing started in the early 1900s with the European Grand Prix. This race had a "formula" of rules for the vehicles that could be used as well as for the drivers. Soon after the Second World War, an even stricter formula was devised. This new set of rules was known as Formula 1, to indicate that it was the most challenging set of rules. F1 Championships have since been divided into two parts - one for the driver and another for the constructors of the car. It uses a point’s based system to decide the winner. The very first F1 Championship held in England in 1950 and won by Giuseppe Farina from Italy winning an Alfa Romeo attracted quite a bit of attention. Since then, F1 news has been one of the sought after items every year.
Normally F1 racing circuits consist of at least one straight length of road. This stretch is called the starting grid for the race. The rest of the course consists of a series of turns and curves to both right and left. Multiple laps are run to finish the race and decide the winner. The 305-kilometer F1 race takes up to 2 hours to finish. Every year various television channels and sites offering F1 videos vie for the rights to telecast the event live. F1 racing has a huge fan base all around the world which has made this an instant hit with sponsors who use the events to advertise their products.
